The association behind Northern Ireland’s accredited chimney sweeps
The Northern Ireland Association of Chimney Sweeps (NIACS) brings together chimney sweeps who meet shared standards on competence, insurance, and professional conduct — and helps householders find them through a public directory.

Why NIACS exists
A chimney sweep works inside your home working with heating appliances that have the potential to be life threatening. We believe the person you invite into your home to maintain these systems should be fully trained and have a sound understanding of appliances and the flues serving them. We don’t believe this can be taught on a one or two day workshop in a classroom.
Our members are trained on the job, one on one with a training officer, for a minimum of two weeks with ongoing support for many months after. The sweep will be covered by public liability insurance and use practices and equipment approved by us to ensure your appliance is left safe. If there are safety issues arising during the appointment, these will be documented and you will be given a written notification, and advised on what course of action you need to take and what member might be able to help out if your chosen sweep does not offer the service.

Collectively covering all six counties and Belfast — each accountable to the association’s code of conduct.
For householders
What membership means
Booking a NIACS member is not a guarantee of a particular result — but it is a clear signal that the sweep has met the association’s entry bar and agreed to shared standards.
Vetted before joining
Every member is reviewed before they join the association. Accreditation is earned, not bought — so the directory stays a reliable shortlist, not an open listing board.
Insured to work in your home
Members carry appropriate insurance for the work they do. A chimney sweep comes into your house; membership is how you know that risk is taken seriously.
Bound by a code of conduct
Membership means agreeing to shared standards — honest practice, safe work, and accountability to the association when something falls short.
Fully trained
Members undertake 14 days of full training so we can verify they meet the standards expected of the association — time spent learning the craft properly, not a quick tick-box.
Where members work
Members set their own coverage. Collectively, NIACS reaches every county in Northern Ireland.
How to find a NIACS sweep
Open the member directory and filter by area or service — or search near your postcode.
Read a member’s profile for services, coverage, and contact details. Many profiles include photos, logos, and a short bio.
Call or email them directly. NIACS does not take bookings or fees from householders — you hire the sweep, not a middleman.
